Container for Valve Timing Gauge

The XK120 Spare Parts Catalog lists a "Container for Valve Timing GAUGE",
part number C.2999 (as supplied with tool-kit) . I have never seen one of
these, either in Australia or trips to US and Europe, however I am assured
they do in fact exist.  Can anyone advise accurate detail of these items,
regarding size, color, material, stitching etc etc that would allow me to
replicate them.  Or, better still does anyone have one in any condition
that I could borrow, buy, beg, steal, trade! - Thanks, Roger Payne

Roger: (1) seems that the earliest 120s would not have had timing gauges at
all as the timing was set without a gauge - see Service Bulletins (2) the
covers were fitted to 120 and 140 but not 150 according to the parts book
(3) I have never seen one in any form either! Dick: I am sure you are right
about the bumpers and the 60s aluminimum repros. The windscreen pillars are
alloy (whatever) chromed originally. The polished aluminium ones you see I
always assumed were original with all the chrome flaked off, quite common.

Roger---The container you speak of has been available here in the US. I
just called this fellow, and he said he can still get them. They are a

This is my first message to this group. I've enjoyed the discussions so
far. My XK-140MC OTS is currently undergoing a frame-off restoration in
Southern California, so discussions about authenticity are timely.  I
bought a newly manufactured valve timing guage pouch about a year ago from
Bill Bassett in Rhode Island. It's a pretty simple, just a folded piece of
leather, slightly larger than the tool and stitched together around the
sides. Mine is brown, but I have no idea how authentic it is. Another
question to help settle an argument with my restorer: I know that the "C"
Type head is painted red in the valley between the valve covers. Is the

Klaus asked if C.2999 Container for Cam-Timing Gauge was for XK120 only.
John Elmgreen is correct in advising they are also listed for XK140
tool-kits, but not for XK150. My second edition Jan 1957 XK140 Spare Parts
Manual still shows them. as does both my Dec 1956 and Jan 1958 copies of
Jaguars Master Price List, although the price lists can only apply to a
spare parts need for existing cars. Thank you Lee Eggers who has offered to
get me a reproduction Container, but does anyone know where I can either
get, or borrow an original. Condition does not matter as I just want to
establish a definitive reference/pattern to 100% accuracy, which is often
not what you get with reproductions. (eg as is problem with Tool-Rolls) -
