Headliner Color

Rob R, You said that your headliner was green. Was it wool? or Rexine/vinyl
type stuff? The samples that Carl Hanson sent me were a vinyl type, whereas
you would expect wool, in pale grey or light fawn/tan. Maybe we have found
another variation here ... funny colours with vinyl/Rexine? - Regards, John

John Elmgreen: The headliner from my car was vinyl (Rexine?), the same blue
as the rest of the trim behind the seats, including the rear window frame.
I know this stretches everyone's credibility but every indication is that
this was original fitting. I sure would like to have someone check out
#679010 somewhere in New Zealand, or any other very early FHC, for similar
features. Maybe the first few cars were really experimental prototypes? -

Carl, Actually, the sample you sent me was not what I would normally think
of as Rexine, which is a real "leathercloth" rather than the more usual
vinyl of the sample (which made me think it was not original). Rexine looks
almost like simple cloth on the back, with a thin layer of plastic over the
top. The sample had a more involved back pattern etc. But a second example
as always causes me to pause! The more you know, the more you know you

This makes me wonder. My 53 fhc had vinyl headlining and similar trim
items. Although it seemed very old, I always assumed it was non original
and put in later on in the states. Mine is sort of beige. Could it be that
vinyl was use on special order?  Am I right that in the sixties? the
americans had a special liking for vinyl type products? - regards, Duco Avis

Sorry to interrupt, but hoe does this "blue" looks like? Light or dark?

Zoran,  Carl's blue headlining is most like the mid blue April 1955 leather
sample I have (but the 120 colour is more blue than the grey type blue of
the 1955 sample).  Not Navy Blue, and not a very light blue, but a mid

John E, My green headliner in 679187 is wool, which I believe they called
mohair? If I can find a place to snippet from I'll send you a piece. I'll
also send a bit of Rexine from the inboard panels of the seat backs. This
stuff seems like nothing more than a cotton bed sheet with three coats of
paint on it. For Roger, thanks, I wasn't quite sure if the avocados in your
country are the same color as in my country, hope so, hope that makes it
clear to everybody. If I had said "Army green" you would have said "Whose
army".  Years ago we even had stoves and refrigerators that color. - Rob

Rob,  No, the headlining is just called wool, the mohair is the top of the
hood on an OTS or DHC (theoretically).  A sample would be much appreciated,
also the Rexine.  It agree with your amusing description of Rexine! -
